Italy

    • The product La Delfina Pinot Grigio delle Venezie Blush IGT, La Delizia has been added to comparison list.

Italy spans roughly 10 degrees of latitude from north to south thus giving it quite a variety of climates. Add to this the fact that each of its 20 different regions produces wine, there are many, many different styles to be found here.

Italy’s wine making history is is thought to date back to around 800bc and it was the Roman’s who first recognised the commercial potential for wine production, along with giving us (quote) sanitation, medicine, education, (wine), public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health (end quote)…

Much like the rest of Europe, Italy’s most famous wines are named after the town or region in which they are produced and this can sometimes make things a little daunting when choosing an Italian wine. And at least with French wines, when someone tells us that Chablis is made from Chardonnay, we recognise the grape type. However, with wines like Soave, we may not have heard of Garganega, or similarly with Valpolicella, we may not know the Corvina grape. Do not, however, let this put you off – just be brave and experiment!

Italy: long country, long history with wine, long lunches.
